What does it means to be American?

To be an American it could mean to share a set of values and ideals. You don't have to be a particular national, religious, and/or ethnic background. Also, to be American means that you are to commit to the abstract ideals of equality. There are many opportunity and to live in a land full of freedom. Finding privileges and having the rights to say what you want to say. Being American can have many different benefits. Americans have many opportunity to a good education. Many countries are less fortunate to have this opportunity. Having pride and  being proud on what the United States has accomplished in your country is one important aspect to be and American. It is very important for Americans to study the history of their country because many important events happened. Americana should be reminded of what the country had endured in the past. This what made American who they are today.

What purpose do primary documents serve in history? How has the world of primary documents changed in the past two decades? What impact will this have on the "telling" of history?

The purpose do the primary documents serve in history is that it’s document of events, stories, news, and etc. That published or happened during that time. People used primary document because it's the first source and we can't go back in the past. Without primary source we in the present wouldn't have the proof of where the document came from. Historians use it to analyze the events in the past. The world of primary documents changed in the past two decades by helping people find the right source of information. Why would people want to get information that is not the primary source. Sometime, when it’s not the primary source, people can make up stuff and give you the wrong set of information and details. The impact that this have on telling of history is that primary source is really important. It is basically a document revealing personal information that are contained in news, books, articles, and etc.

Discuss how culture influences your lives: How has culture made you the people that you are today? How different would you be had you grown up in a different culture?

Culture has made me the person who I am today by becoming one huge aspect that is a part of my life. Without culture, I wouldn't know who I am now. It made me realize that where my cultural roots had come from has a unique history and background. Learning and tracking down where my family originally came from is also unique. Especially, how your parents tell stories about where they were born. If I had grown up in a different culture would it be different? Well, I'm already grown up in a different culture. I'm Cambodian, but had adapted to American culture. So, the real question is "do I feel different?" Yes I do. Between my culture and the American culture, we do things differently. For example, our holidays are celebrated in different ways compared to American holidays. Living in the two cultures really had changed me.

Inspiration blog # 3

Today, I was listening to the song Good Life by One Republic. When I was listening to the song, it was really meaningful. the song is mainly about how everything is basically a good life to him. No matter where he goes or what he do makes no difference in anything because he always think positive and move the negative things a side. Everywhere he goes inspire him that life is meaningful. Everyday, when he wakes up anywhere. He is saying that he can make it a great/wonderful day. He has no doubt that he wouldn't. Life has lessons and needs to be learned and move on to great things. Live life to the fullest and enjoy it is what he is basically doing he wants to live happy. he doesn' want to go through any struggles or pain. The meaning of this song really had inspired me to have a good life and just go with the flow with no worries.

Select the right (from 1st Amendment) that you think is the most important. Explain why you think so.

I think the Bill of Rights is the most important because it's the combined name for the first ten amendments to the United States Constitution, which limit the power of the U.S federal government. It protect the natural rights of liberty and property including freedom association, freedom of religion, speech, press, and assembly and petition. The arrangement of the Constitution to respect the individual citizen's basic rights, such as right to trial by jury. The first amendment protects the civil liberties of individuals in the United States. It was a top priority and protects whatever press you put out or what you are trying to say to the public. We have the rights to protest in what we believe in. We also have the rights to say whatever is right that would be protected under the law. It plays a role in American government and law. It also it gives the people the power of freedom of speech and religion.

Yesterday, I was walking to go to my cousin's house and I seen a group of nice people planting small trees and taking good care of their plants and flowers. In the city it's hard to find fresh produce, they are making it easier for those people who needs help on finding them. I also seen them cleaning the block. They had put many hard work and dedication  in what they set their mind to. They are setting good examples and doing a good deed their  helping the community to be a better place. These people seem like they don't need to be force to being doing something like this. They are just doing it because they are taking action to what they enjoy doing. I found it inspiring that they are making a change in the world and that they are making the environment a better place.

Select a quote from pp.170. Do you agree or disagree with it?

" It appears to me, then, little short of a miracle that the delegates from so many states ... should unite in forming a system of national government." - George Washington.

I agree with this quote because it doesn't matter what government system you are from as long it's for the people. We can become united. It's important hear what the people have to say in their opinion to form this system. Without the people we wouldn't have a system to follow. Different people from different states with different opinion could come together and order laws for the people. Without following the system there would be a whole commotion between the states and the people. For justice to be serve it have to have individual citizen basic rights, such as right to trial by jury. We need the system to do that. To form this unity people need to take action.

A couple days ago, my family and I went to a cool place called Hibachi. It's a steakhouse & sushi bar in Pennslanding. We were sitting next to a nice young couple. It make me realize how relationship can be very adorable and lovely. But, can also have some struggles. the young couple was very happy and they seem like they had a close connection. They seem inseparable. Also, how much they feel comfortable toward each other. It make me wonder if I would ever have that relationship with someone. Love can be unbreakable in a healthy relationship. it would be hard to be apart from one another. In my opinion, Love is hard to explain. but, that one word can make a difference and is meaningful to a person. Loving someone is mainly having a very deep/strong feeling towards them. If that person except your love, they would feel the same way. If, I ever find the right person I would like to be in a very healthy and cheerful relationship. :D

In your opinion, what made the Declaration of Independence successful and a failure?

In my opinion, the Declaration of Independence is a founding document of American history. The successful thing that made the Declaration of Independence was when it states that people have certain basic rights and that the government should protect those rights. If the government did not support their rights, the people had the right to rebel. Also, how it lists the colonists' complaints against the British government. Then, it declared that the colonies are free and is an independent states. There were signers of the Declaration as representatives of the American people. They declared the colonies independent from Great Britain. The failure was it wasn't a social contract, it didn't create any form of government. It was a statement justifying the American Revolution and it was force of law to separate the colonies. Also, it failed because the declaration was almost forgotten entirely and it failed to accomplish some things and didn't remain faithful.

What are your feelings/thoughts/opinions about your group's proposal on Columbus day?

My group chose to celebrate Columbus day. In my opinion, I think we should celebrate Columbus day because Columbus made a huge impact on America. It's part of history, it was something historically good. It was one of America's oldest holiday. So, why stop celebrating it since, it has been in American tradition for years. If we didn't celebrate it then, future kids wouldn't know anything about it. Also, if we continue to celebrate Columbus day, future kids would  look on their calendar and ask "what is Columbus day?" We as in the adults can tell the kids all about Columbus like who he was and what he did. Columbus was the one who started the Columbian exchange. The Columbian exchange was a widespread exchange of plants, culture, and animals between the Eastern and Western hemisphere. (old world and new world.) Without the Columbian exchange we wouldn't have all these goods. This is why I think we should continue to celebrate Columbus day.

What does it say about a country to support a person/holiday such as Columbus?

When a country support a person/holiday such as Columbus, it shows the huge significance of a person or society as a whole to appreciate what Columbus did through his discovery of America. For example, like how he started the Columbian exchange, it brought plants, animals, & cultures. Also,if we didn't have the right plants we need to be treated we wouldn't survive. The exchange is important because it was widespread. Everyone around the world can get the items they needed.  He was the one who had brought every different cultures to one place.  If, it wasn't for him no one would have ever knew this place besides the Native Americans. The Native American would be the only one living in America. As of today many people from all around the world are living in the United States.
